Teaching Children How to Draw with Shapes

It’s always fun to create a picture out of a blank page. And while there is no formula for creating great art, we can teach children how to draw with shapes. Rob Schapiro, author of the Little Fly series of illustrated kids’ books, has put together some instructions on teaching children how to draw with shapes.

Children (and adults) can follow the simple set of sketches to learn how to draw Little Fly, Starfish and some of the other fun creatures in his book series. Copy each picture step by step, and anyone teaching children how to draw with shapes will see how the simple diagrams gradually develop into delightful sketches of those we have met in his books like “Where Does Daddy Go?” and “Starfish and Space Dust.”

This teaches children how they can make complex  images by building up simple shapes.  And teaching children how to draw with shapes will give them the confidence and tools to draw and sketch images in the future.

Copy these sketches here and see how you do.
